Gig cancellations Davenport, IA and Des Moines, IA

We are no longer opening for the Toasters in Davenport, IA this Friday due to a family illness. They found another opening band and the show will go on as planned. The gig with the Prizefighters in Des Moines on Saturday is going to be cancelled all together for the same reason. We will hopefully be able to make up these gigs this Spring or Summer with some of the same bands, hopefully. Thanks for all our love and support and we’ll be seeing you on the dance floor the next gig.

THIS SATURDAY FEBUARY 11!!!

This is what Jordan Porter of the Prizefighters wrote about this weekends show:
“This, my friends, is the stuff of legends. Pure solid gold. Absolute, 5-Airhorns-a-blazin’ lunacy. On February 11, New York City Ska seminal skankers The Toasters return for a 31st year of enlisting 15 year old kids into the 2-Tone Army (a-hey! a-hey!). Helping these elder statesmen out in the department of heavy hitting monster reggae will be two scorching local groups ready to turn your hips into jelly.”

Thanks to Aaron Porter for designing the flier!

“The Dropsteppers, fresh off their 2011 Megalith Records debut “Get Up in It!”, will supply you with their trademark soulful lamentations, with that added Perez Bros kick to take it up two notches.”

“The Prizefighters, having just released their vinyl-only special edition of “Follow My Sound” on Jump Up! Records, will make you about half an inch shorter from all the cartilage-grinding your knees will joyfully succumb to.”

THE DROPSTEPPERS CHICAGO DEBUT!!!

THE DROPSTEPPERS made their Chicago debut at a killer club located in the upper-south side of The Second City!!! Reggies Music Joint (reggieslive.com/musicjoint/) hosted a monster night of music starting with Dropsteady, a local favorite, these soul reggae rockers got the night off right! The second act was The Green Room Rockers, coming up from Lafayette, IN, these cats roll hard with the soul-steady reggae!!! Look out for their new record on Jump Up Records!!! After these two great bands warmed up the crowd THE DROPSTEPPERS took the stage!!! We shook the walls with dancing and it was said for one night the blues was hard to find. Lastly, the legendary local group, SKAPONE finished the night to a still packed house!!! What a great line up!!! What an amazing night! Real mid-west music!!!!

MID-WEST MONSTER MASH-UP!!!!

Before leaving Chicago we dropped off our CD at Record Breakers located above the venue. Don’t forget to stop in and pick up our CD “Get Up In It!” exclusively for the Chicago land area at Reggies!!!

BIG BIG YEAR FOR THE DROPS!!!

With this last year past us THE DROPSTEPPERS are making a splash nationally and internationally. Garnering critical acclaim from the 18 year old running program, “Ska’s The Limit” (www.stlska.com), host JJ Loy’s Best of Ska and Reggae in 2011list had THE DROPSTEPPERS at Number 7!!! Here’s some kind words from the man: “It was a big year for Ska, with tons of releases. Some of the best material of the year was in the short format of EPs, digital singles and 7 inches, so I’m also going to give these their own list. But first, let’s start with the full lengths… 7. The Dropsteppers – Get Up In It! – Megalith Here’s a band that just floored me the moment I heard them. The Dropsteppers are playing a soul-amped version of Rocksteady, that sounds completely modern, but without even the slightest betrayal to the Rocksteady tradition. And isn’t that what the world is hungry for these days- respectfully retro, but with a modern approach?”
Also international recognition was shown on Joe Scholes (www.joescholes.com) “Best Ska Rocksteady Early Reggae Album 2011 Poll” hosted on his blog spot! With 4559 votes cast from as far as Venezuela this European readers poll saw THE DROPSTEPPERS tallying up 253 votes, respectfully 6%, and reaching number 5 on this international poll!!! “But many bands and fans were obviously up for a little competition. Some more, some less. And so a few bands ended up in the Top 10 that you might not expect. Other big names did not make it to the top.”
“Okay, it was a great help if you had a brilliant album under your wings. But some other things were also important. Were you willing to help your fans show love to you? What were you ready to give?

Hard at work getting out the VOTE!!!

Take The Dropsteppers for example. This fresh band from the USA came up with a delicate photo to add some wood to the fire of their already hot album. And they finished in the Top 5.” Thanks Joe!!!

New Record!

Minneapolis based early Reggae, Soul & Rocksteady band, DROP their first full length on Megalith Records!
Yea that’s the sound you hear when the one drops. Fresh new vibes coming from out of the Great Lakes region of the US, but they are anything but watered down. This band is making their presence known on the scene from the get go. Hitting the road right away, recording a smoking hot rekkid and with plans to jump the pond to Europe next year! This band is stepping in all the right directions.

There’s definitely a surge of “soul” or “dirty reggae” infused bands coming up over the past few years in the ska scene. It’s one thing to dress the part, it’s another to “act” it, but if you can’t back it with the TUNES then you best not “Get Up In It!”. Forming as early as January 2010, the band quickly established their sound of a nice musical blend of Jamaican early reggae, rocksteady and classic American Soul Music. Moving from grungy choppy guitar laden tracks to slow smooth soulful love induced tracks that are reminisent of favorites like “Left With A Broken Heart”…but do not pass the Dropsteppers by as a mimic band, no sir, these guys have the originality to set them apart from the crowd, but the knowledge and aesthetics to showcase their love for all things vintage!

We were attracted to the band from the moment we connected. Both in the way they conducted their business, to the drive and motivation they spoke of and put forth as well as their visual appeal in early looks at their artwork, not to mention those few demo tracks they sent that I think put some rust on my stereo speakers!! (guys you own me a new pair!). Megalith Records are very proud to have the opportunity to big up this band and introduce them to world, and we do me WORLD! The United States cannot contain this beat.

If you are fans of classic players like The Melodians, The Upsetters and Otis Redding as well as modern bands like Megalith’s very own Royal City Riot, Deal’s Gone Bad and bands like The Aggrolites…then you should already own this!
